Alstom delivers 3 Traxx locomotives to Captrain Polska, operable across six countries

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Alstom announced that it has delivered 3 third-generation Traxx Universal multi-system electric locomotives to Captrain Polska, a Polish rail freight operator. The vehicles have obtained operating permits for six countries—Poland, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg—and are scheduled to enter service from September in cross-border freight projects coordinated by Captrain Polska across Poland, Germany, France, and Belgium.

This delivery corresponds to the procurement contract signed between the two parties in August 2024. At that time, Captrain Polska ordered 3 third-generation Traxx Universal locomotives for intermodal operations. The vehicles were produced at Alstom's Kassel plant in Germany, while the carbodies were manufactured at the Wrocław plant in Poland. With the completion of the delivery of the 3 locomotives, this order has transitioned from the procurement phase to the vehicle operation preparation phase.

Captrain Polska had previously leased Traxx MS2 and DC2 locomotives for over 10 years, and these third-generation Traxx Universal locomotives represent the company's first direct procurement of modern locomotives. Once in operation, the vehicles will serve as part of Captrain Polska's own locomotive fleet for east-west cross-border rail freight. Alstom will also be responsible for locomotive maintenance and preventive inspections during the vehicle warranty period.

The delivered vehicles have a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h, feature a multi-system electric traction configuration, and are equipped with Alstom's Onvia onboard signaling system and the European Train Control System (ETCS). The six-country operating permits enable the vehicles to run across the aforementioned rail networks. In line with the intended use defined at the time of the 2024 contract signing, these 3 locomotives are primarily oriented toward cross-border intermodal transport.
