Wedoany.com Report-Jun 22, The P+B Group is developing NEULAND NEUSS, a new urban district in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, featuring geothermal heating and cooling and electricity from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with geothermal probe drilling already underway.

The district, located on the site of the former Bauer & Schaurte screw factory, will include approximately 450 residential units, with 33% designated as publicly subsidized apartments. Additional amenities will include daycare centers, co-working spaces, a hotel, cultural and dining facilities, and other social infrastructure to support a vibrant community.
The energy system will rely on 107 geothermal probes, each drilled to about 200 meters, to provide heating and cooling. Water-to-water heat pumps and water-cooled chillers will regulate temperatures year-round, while solar PV systems on building roofs will generate electricity. This combination is designed to create a largely CO2-neutral energy supply, earning the project recognition as a KlimaQuartier.NRW initiative by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Gerd Hebebrand, Managing Partner of the P+B Group, stated: “With our NEULAND® neighborhood brand, we have developed an innovative concept that meets all the ecological and social challenges of our time. We are delighted that we can now build such a neighborhood, suitable for future generations, for the first time in Neuss.”
Mayor Reiner Breuer added: “This project demonstrates how we combine climate protection, innovative neighborhood development, and social responsibility right in the heart of our city. The former industrial site is not only home to new apartments, but also to livable urban space. We are creating affordable housing for families, students, and trainees—while laying the foundation for a vibrant, intergenerational community. With the start of geothermal drilling, the dawn of a sustainable energy future for the new urban district is now becoming visible!”
The NEULAND NEUSS project aims to transform the former industrial site into a sustainable, inclusive urban space, supporting Neuss’s commitment to environmental and social progress through innovative energy solutions and community-focused development.
