Wedoany.com Report-Jun 20, A consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment International, alongside Cyprus-based Iacovou Brothers, has secured a €170 million design-build contract for the phase 2 expansion of Larnaka and Pafos airports in Cyprus. Awarded by Hermes Airports, the contract allocates €119 million to Bouygues. Additionally, Hermes Airports appointed a consortium of U.S.-based Hill International and Salfo & Associates for engineering and construction oversight.
The 30-month project will boost Larnaka’s capacity from 7.5 million passengers a year now to 12.4 million
The expansion will significantly increase the capacity of both airports. Larnaka Airport, currently handling 7.5 million passengers annually, will grow to accommodate 12.4 million, while Pafos Airport’s capacity will rise from 2.7 million to 5 million passengers per year. Construction at Larnaka is expected to take 30 months, and at Pafos, 27 months.
At Larnaka, the project includes a three-storey terminal extension to add security checkpoints, retail, and dining areas. A new pier with walk-in boarding and arrival gates, along with additional aircraft parking spaces, will also be constructed. Pafos Airport will see an expanded terminal with enhanced border control, security, and baggage handling facilities, redesigned commercial spaces, and an extended southern taxiway.
Pierre-Eric Saint-André, deputy chief executive of Bouygues Construction, stated: “This project marks a new stage for Hermes Airports in the development of Larnaka and Pafos airports, which we already completed in 2009.” The initiative builds on the consortium’s prior work, enhancing infrastructure to meet growing passenger demands and improve operational efficiency.
The project, managed by Hermes Airports, aims to modernize and expand critical infrastructure in Cyprus, supporting economic growth and improving traveler experiences through upgraded facilities and increased capacity.
