Wedoany.com Report-Jun 25, American semiconductor manufacturer Texas Instruments (TI) is investing $60 billion to construct seven new manufacturing plants across three locations: two in Texas and one in Utah. The initiative is expected to generate approximately 60,000 jobs, supporting economic growth in these regions.

The project includes four plants in Sherman, Texas. The SM1 semiconductor fabrication facility, where construction began three years ago, is set to start production in 2025. The exterior of the SM2 plant is complete, with two additional facilities, SM3 and SM4, in the planning stages. In Richardson, Texas, TI will expand its operations by building a second factory while maximizing the capacity of its existing RFAB1 plant. In Lehi, Utah, a new plant is under construction, connected to an existing 300mm wafer fabrication facility.

TI President Haviv Ilan stated: “Leading US companies such as Apple, Ford, Medtronic, Nvidia, and SpaceX rely on TI’s world-class technology and manufacturing expertise, and we are honoured to work alongside them and the US government to unleash what’s next in American innovation.” The company highlighted that the investment represents the largest in foundational semiconductor manufacturing in U.S. history.

TI received $1.6 billion in funding through the CHIPS and Science Act to support the project. The company has also collaborated with U.S. government officials to advance domestic semiconductor production. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick remarked: “President Trump has made it a priority to increase semiconductor manufacturing in America – including these foundational semiconductors that go into the electronics that people use every day.”

The facilities will produce semiconductors critical for electronics used by major U.S. companies, strengthening the supply chain for industries such as automotive, healthcare, and technology. The expansion aligns with efforts to enhance U.S. manufacturing capabilities and meet growing demand for advanced semiconductors.

Construction is progressing at multiple sites, with the Sherman and Lehi plants expected to contribute to TI’s production capacity in the near future. The initiative underscores TI’s commitment to innovation and its role in supporting key industries across the United States.
