Netherlands Pryme One Chemical Recycling Plant Plans £6 Million Retrofit
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Winalot BV, a newly established wholly owned subsidiary of UK-based EMV Capital, has completed the acquisition of the Pryme One waste plastic chemical recycling plant at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and plans to retrofit the existing facility using a proprietary fluidized bed reactor already manufactured by DeepTech Recycling (DTR). Winalot expects to invest approximately £6 million in additional capital expenditure, with the goal of resuming commercial operations in approximately 18 months, subject to the finalization of financing and technology contracts.
Pryme One is located in the industrial zone of the Port of Rotterdam. The original project had a capital expenditure of more than €50 million, achieved mechanical completion in 2023, and commenced operations in 2024, beginning sales of pyrolysis oil. Due to critical issues with the original reactor technology, the plant ceased operations in March 2026. The retrofit will retain the existing feedstock pretreatment, feeding, product recovery, storage, and other utilities and auxiliary facilities, with a focus on replacing the core reaction system.
The proprietary fluidized bed reactor that DTR plans to install has already been manufactured and will be used to process mixed and difficult-to-mechanically-recycle waste plastics, converting them into recycled oil products that can re-enter the petrochemical value chain. If the retrofit is successful, the project will become the first commercial-scale demonstration of DTR's fluidized bed chemical recycling technology, while also serving as a reference plant for subsequent technology deployment.
The project has currently completed the asset acquisition. In the next phase, Winalot and DTR will negotiate the formal commercial terms for reactor supply, technology licensing, and support services, while simultaneously advancing the raising of additional retrofit funding. The relevant funding may include debt, equity, and non-dilutive grants.
The original Pryme One process used a pyrolysis route to convert waste plastics into liquid hydrocarbon products. After the plant restarts, the products are still planned to be sold primarily as feedstock for petrochemical companies. The area around the Port of Rotterdam is home to a concentration of refining and chemical companies, providing downstream offtake conditions for recycled oil products.
