Cuba's National Power Grid Collapses Again: Transmission Line Fault Triggers Widespread Blackout

Cuba's Ministry of Energy and Mines confirmed that a large-scale failure occurred in the national power grid that afternoon, and the power sector subsequently launched restoration procedures to gradually restore generating units, transmission lines, and regional power supply.
The fault first appeared in the high-voltage transmission network in central-western Cuba. Local power authorities disclosed that at 13:57, a fault occurred in some sections of the 220 kV Matanzas—Cienfuegos transmission line, after which the Matanzas—Santa Clara transmission line also showed abnormalities. Successive transmission line faults caused multiple regions to disconnect from the national main grid one after another, ultimately resulting in a nationwide blackout.
After the blackout occurred, Cuba's power sector began restoring power supply by region, first using power sources capable of independent startup to establish local power supply systems, and then gradually connecting generating units and transmission lines. By that evening, power supply had been restored to some hospitals and surrounding key areas in Havana, but a relatively large area remained without power.
At the time of this fault, Cuba's power system was still facing operational pressures such as insufficient generating capacity and tight fuel supply.
