Construction Begins on Aegis Energy's Sheffield Multi-Energy Commercial Vehicle Refuelling Hub in the UK

en.Wedoany.com Reported - In September, construction officially began on UK-based Aegis Energy's multi-energy commercial vehicle refuelling hub at Smithywood Business Park in Sheffield. The project is located approximately 1 mile from Junction 35 of the M1 motorway. Once completed, it will provide electric vehicle fast charging and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) refuelling services for trucks and vans, with operations scheduled to begin in spring 2027.

According to Aegis Energy's official website, once fully equipped, the Sheffield hub will have 72 van bays and 30 truck bays, capable of serving more than 100 commercial vehicles simultaneously. The charging facilities will use CCS2 connectors, with a maximum single-gun charging power of 400kW, and will offer bookable charging, drop-in charging, and 24-hour vehicle parking services. The project will also include HVO refuelling facilities, providing alternative fuel for heavy-duty vehicles still using diesel powertrains.

The project has obtained planning permission from Sheffield City Council. In addition to vehicle energy refuelling facilities, the site will also include a driver rest area, shower and sanitary facilities, dining facilities, and a secure overnight parking area. Aegis Energy estimates that the construction phase and related supply chain will create more than 250 jobs.

The Sheffield project is the first construction project in Aegis Energy's UK commercial vehicle multi-energy network. The company is currently also advancing site development in Dartford, Warrington, Immingham, and Corby, with the Dartford project located approximately 1.4 miles from the M25 Dartford Crossing. Aegis Energy plans to first establish 5 commercial vehicle energy hubs and further expand the network to major UK motorways and freight corridors.

Aegis Energy received backing from Quinbrook in 2025, which plans to deploy approximately £100 million over three years for related commercial vehicle multi-energy infrastructure. The company currently proposes to build more than 50 multi-energy refuelling hubs in the UK, with the network to provide energy refuelling services including electric vehicle charging, HVO, and bio-compressed natural gas.
