Poland's Greenvolt Starts Construction of 600MW/2.4GWh Energy Storage Project, Set to Be Operational by End of 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Greenvolt Power, a subsidiary of Greenvolt Group, has announced that its 600MW/2.4GWh battery energy storage project in Siedlce, Poland, has officially entered the construction phase. Once completed, the project will become Poland's largest battery energy storage facility and rank among Europe's large-scale energy storage projects, with commercial operation planned before the end of 2027. The project has already signed battery equipment supply agreements and grid connection agreements.

The Siedlce project is configured with 600MW of charge-discharge power and 2.4GWh of energy storage capacity, capable of discharging continuously for approximately 4 hours at rated power. The project will be used to store electricity when renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power generate high output, and to release electricity when electricity demand rises or the grid requires regulation, providing peak shaving, valley filling, capacity support, and system flexibility for Poland's power system. The project has previously secured partial future revenue through Poland's capacity market mechanism.

In terms of equipment, BYD Energy Storage will supply the BYD Haohan energy storage system for the project. The overall solution includes 210 battery containers and 105 transformer containers equipped with power conversion systems, used to complete the energy conversion between the battery DC side and the grid AC side. Greenvolt Power has also brought in engineering construction company P&Q and renewable energy contractor ONDE to handle the construction of the project's electrical infrastructure and other engineering work.

Siedlce is not Greenvolt's first large-scale energy storage project in Poland. The company's 200MW/800MWh energy storage project in Turośń Kościelna was already put into operation in July 2026, and another 200MW/800MWh project in Ełk is scheduled for commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2026. Once all three projects are operational, Greenvolt will have formed a combined 1GW/4GWh large-scale battery energy storage asset portfolio in Poland.

Greenvolt currently has approximately 4.6GW of probability-weighted energy storage project pipeline, of which approximately 2.4GW is located in Poland. With the Siedlce project moving from early-stage development into construction, the company's energy storage footprint in Poland has further expanded from 200MW-class projects to a 600MW-class single project.
