en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) and Ecopetrol S.A. completed a new round of deepwater exploration activities in Block GUA-OFF-0 in the Colombian Caribbean Sea. During two and a half years of continuous operations, a total of 5 wells were drilled, with cumulative investment of approximately USD 1 billion. Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. Colombia Branch, a subsidiary of Petrobras, served as the block operator and held a 44.4% interest, while Ecopetrol held 55.6%. The block contract was signed by both parties with the Colombian National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH).

This drilling campaign included Sirius-2, Buena Suerte-1, Papayuela-1, Copoazú-1 and Sandía-1. Among them, Copoazú-1 was spudded on November 11, 2025, and completed operations on February 8, 2026, confirming natural gas in two gas-bearing intervals independent of Sirius; Sandía-1 was spudded on June 12 and reached final total depth on July 29, with a well depth of 5,383 meters and an operating water depth of approximately 1,250 meters, also confirming the presence of natural gas.

Sirius-2 was responsible for the appraisal work of the Sirius discovery. Previous appraisal results confirmed that the region contains more than 6 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, and Petrobras and Ecopetrol have been advancing a production development plan around this discovery. The planned scheme includes 4 production wells and is intended to adopt a "subsea-to-shore" model to transport natural gas to onshore processing facilities, with a target production of approximately 13 million cubic meters per day.

This round of offshore operations was planned, managed, coordinated and executed by Petrobras. During the exploration period, offshore logistics cumulatively transported more than 147,600 tonnes of cargo and 45 million liters of fuel, contractor port cargo operations exceeded 8,300 batches, and support vessel navigation exceeded 22,000 nautical miles; helicopters carried out more than 1,000 sorties, accumulating more than 1,400 flight hours.

Follow-up work on Block GUA-OFF-0 has diverged from pure drilling toward discovery appraisal and project development preparation. Among these, well data from Copoazú and Sandía are undergoing further analysis; Sirius has entered the stage of exploration result appraisal and development technical maturation, while production development still requires completion of procedures such as environmental permitting and prior consultation with communities.
