en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, South Africa's Department of Human Settlements confirmed that a rural housing delivery event will be held on October 28 in the Maphephetheni area north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal Province, involving Phase 3 of the Emaphephetheni Rural Housing Project. The project is valued at nearly R330 million and is planned to provide housing for 2,286 households by 2028, with nearly R7 million in project funding allocated for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The housing delivery event is jointly organized by South Africa's Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma, and eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cyril Xaba. The beneficiaries are local residents who meet the housing assistance eligibility criteria, and the event is scheduled to take place on the morning of October 28 at the Emaphephetheni Community Hall.

The project adopts a phased housing construction and delivery arrangement, with plans to complete the housing provision task for all 2,286 households by 2028. The nearly R7 million allocated for the 2026/2027 financial year is for the project's implementation in the current year and forms part of the overall project funding. The works are incorporated into South Africa's rural housing improvement program, focusing on households with poor existing living conditions and gradually providing permanent residences.
