Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 4, SITC International Holdings, a Hong Kong-listed shipping company, has signed a contract with Huanghai Shipbuilding in China to construct four new container vessels, each with a capacity of 2,700 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). The deal, valued at nearly $153 million, supports SITC’s ongoing fleet expansion efforts.

The new vessels are scheduled for delivery between late 2027 and mid-2028. This order increases SITC’s current newbuild program to 14 vessels, following a previous agreement last year for ten 1,800 TEU ships at Huanghai Shipbuilding, set for delivery from 2026 to 2028 at approximately $29 million each.

SITC specializes in intra-Asia container shipping and is recognized as a significant player in the global market. According to Alphaliner data, the company ranks 14th among container shipping firms worldwide, operating a fleet of 121 vessels with a total capacity of about 188,000 TEU. Of these, 103 vessels are company-owned, reflecting SITC’s commitment to maintaining a robust, self-owned fleet.

The addition of these four larger vessels enhances SITC’s capacity to meet growing demand in the intra-Asia shipping market. The newbuilds are designed to improve operational efficiency and support the company’s role in facilitating regional trade.

By partnering with Huanghai Shipbuilding, SITC continues to leverage established expertise in vessel construction to strengthen its fleet. This strategic investment aligns with the company’s focus on expanding its infrastructure to support reliable and efficient shipping services across Asia.

The expansion reflects SITC’s proactive approach to addressing market needs while maintaining its position as a leading container shipping provider. The new vessels will contribute to the company’s ability to handle increased cargo volumes, supporting trade and economic activity in the region.
