Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 14, Veidekke, a leading construction company, has been awarded a contract by the Swedish Transport Administration to build the Stora Hamnkanalen tunnel in central Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of the West Link Project. Valued at approximately SEK 280 million (USD 29.3 million), the project involves constructing a tunnel with a 54-meter concrete section and a 16-meter rock section near the Göta älv river outlet.

The tunnel is set for completion in mid-2029.

Work on the Stora Hamnkanalen tunnel has begun, with completion expected by mid-2029. This tunnel is the final construction contract for the Haga stage of the West Link Project, which aims to enhance Gothenburg’s commuter and regional railway network, improving connectivity and public transportation infrastructure.

In a separate initiative, Veidekke has partnered with OBOS, a Nordic cooperative building association, to renovate OBOS’s former head office at Hammersborg Torg in Oslo, Norway. The turnkey contract, valued at around NOK 300 million (excluding VAT), focuses on modernizing the facility to meet contemporary standards for new tenants.

The renovation project covers approximately 17,500 square meters of office space across two buildings—one with 12 floors and another with four—along with a reception building and shared three-level basements. Upgrades include energy-efficient systems, modern office spaces, meeting rooms, a canteen, a training room, and changing facilities. The existing underground parking garage will be refurbished, and new bicycle parking will be added to promote sustainable commuting options.

Construction on the Oslo renovation has started, with the revamped premises scheduled for handover in the second and third quarters of 2026. The project aligns with OBOS’s relocation to Construction City at Ulven, ensuring the former head office meets the needs of future occupants while prioritizing energy efficiency.

Veidekke’s portfolio also includes recent projects like the Bjarg Arena, a multipurpose facility for the Bjarg Sports Club in Bergen, Norway, showcasing its expertise in delivering diverse construction projects across the Nordic region.
