en.Wedoany.com Reported - DP World has deployed 35 electric terminal tractors at the South Container Terminal (SCT) of Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia, expanding the facility's terminal tractor fleet by over 20%. This is the latest development in the company's $800 million long-term investment plan aimed at transforming SCT into one of the region's most efficient and sustainable container terminals.

Following the deployment, the annual carbon dioxide emissions of the terminal tractor fleet are expected to decrease by approximately 20% compared to current levels, while improving operational efficiency and equipment availability for customers.
The electric tractors are used to transport containers between the quayside and the yard, supporting efficient vessel operations and driving the transition from diesel-powered machinery to clean energy.
This investment follows the introduction of three semi-automated quay cranes at SCT in March 2026, bringing the terminal's total number of quay cranes to 17.
The South Container Terminal covers nearly 1 million square meters, featuring five container berths with a total quay length of 2,150 meters and a water depth of 18 meters, capable of accommodating the world's largest container vessels.
As container throughput along the Red Sea corridor continues to grow, equipment availability and turnaround efficiency directly impact vessel performance and customer service levels.
The deployment of electric tractors is part of SCT's goal to achieve full equipment electrification by 2030, advancing DP World's decarbonization agenda and aligning with Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030" objective of building a globally competitive logistics industry.
Mohammad Alshaikh, CEO of DP World Saudi Arabia, stated that every investment at the terminal is designed to provide customers with greater reliability, efficiency, and capacity, while supporting Saudi Arabia's growing trade ambitions. He described these electric tractors as a significant milestone in transforming SCT into a future-ready, low-carbon regional trade gateway.
