Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 20, Bravus Mining and Resources, the Australian arm of Adani, has awarded a five-year, A$2 billion ($1.3 billion) contract to MacKellar Group for mining services at the Carmichael thermal coal mine in central Queensland, near Clermont. Announced recently by Australia Mining, the agreement aims to boost operational efficiency and support future growth at the facility.
The contract, which includes risk and reward mechanisms, is expected to provide long-term operational stability for the mine.
“This decision secures the operational efficiency of Carmichael for today and sets a platform for growth in the future,” said Mick Crowe, chief operating officer of Bravus Mining and Resources. “It also gives the 1000 MacKellar workers who travel to and from Townsville, Rockhampton, the Isaac Region, Cairns, or Mackay to work at our Carmichael mine confidence about their futures, and that is something we are very proud of.”
The contract, finalized through a competitive tender process, incorporates risk and reward mechanisms to ensure long-term stability for the mine. MacKellar Group has been a partner since the mine’s groundbreaking in 2019, contributing to its development and operations. Since construction began, Bravus has invested over A$2 billion in regional Queensland contractors and businesses, fostering local economic growth.
Operational since 2022, the Carmichael mine produces over ten million tonnes of export-quality coal annually, sold to international markets based on demand. The mine employs more than 1,200 permanent staff, with approximately 750 workers on site at any time, primarily from Townsville, Rockhampton, Clermont, and the Isaac Region. This contract strengthens job security for the workforce and supports regional communities.
The partnership with MacKellar Group enhances the mine’s capacity to maintain high production levels while prioritizing efficiency. The Carmichael mine plays a significant role in Queensland’s economy, providing employment and business opportunities while contributing to the global coal supply chain.
Bravus, rebranded in November 2020 to mark Adani’s decade of operations in Australia, continues to focus on sustainable operations and regional investment. The A$2 billion contract underscores its commitment to long-term economic contributions and operational excellence at the Carmichael mine, supporting both local communities and international energy markets.
