Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 30, Semco Maritime and PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C) have secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the offshore substation of the 495MW Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. The project is developed by Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) and delivery is scheduled for the end of 2027.
Under the contract, the consortium will manage the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the jacket and topside. Semco Maritime will lead engineering, procurement, and commissioning of the MV/HV electrical and auxiliary platform systems, with support from ISC Consulting Engineers. PTSC M&C will manage the jacket EPC scope, equipment procurement, and fabrication of the topside at its Vung Tau yard in Vietnam.
Semco senior vice president Thomas Thomsen said: “We are proud that SRE has entrusted our consortium with this project, and we will draw on our joint experience in Taiwan to deliver a stellar result.” PTSC M&C managing director To Ngoc Tu added the contract is a “successful milestone” for the partnership.
Formosa 4 is SRE’s third offshore wind project in Taiwan and supports the government’s localisation policy. The award also marks the third offshore substation project in Taiwan for the Semco–PTSC consortium, following prior work on Hai Long and Feng Miao.
The project highlights Taiwan’s continued expansion in renewable energy and the role of international collaborations in delivering large-scale offshore wind infrastructure. By combining Semco’s expertise in electrical and platform systems with PTSC M&C’s fabrication and offshore construction capabilities, the consortium aims to ensure efficient and timely delivery of the substation.
The Formosa 4 offshore wind farm, with a capacity of 495MW, will contribute significantly to Taiwan’s clean energy targets and the local supply of renewable electricity. The offshore substation will integrate power generated by the wind turbines into the national grid, enhancing energy security and sustainability.
The project also demonstrates the growing role of regional engineering and fabrication hubs, such as PTSC M&C’s Vietnam facility, in supporting large-scale offshore wind projects across Asia. The collaboration between Semco Maritime and PTSC M&C underscores the importance of international partnerships to combine technical expertise, local knowledge, and manufacturing capabilities.
Overall, the Formosa 4 offshore substation EPC contract reflects the strategic development of Taiwan’s offshore wind sector, the consortium’s proven experience in prior offshore projects, and the commitment of both companies to delivering reliable, high-quality renewable energy infrastructure by 2027.
