Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 21, Silk Way West Airlines has signed a firm order for two additional Airbus A350F freighters, increasing its total commitment to four aircraft. The agreement strengthens the carrier’s fleet renewal and expansion program.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Airbus on the A350F programme. This order, bringing our total commitment to four aircraft, marks a major milestone in our company’s growth and reflects our confidence in the future of sustainable air freight. The A350F will strengthen our leading position in the global air freight market as we continue to modernise our fleet and reduce our carbon footprint,” said Wolfgang Meier, President of Silk Way West Airlines.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President Sales, Commercial Aircraft, commented: “This repeat order from Silk Way West Airlines, the largest cargo airline in the Caspian Sea region, is a great vote of confidence at a time when the A350F is physically taking shape in our assembly lines. The A350F will ensure the airline maintains its leading position in the global air freight market and further enables its key role in developing Azerbaijan as a major global cargo hub at the heart of the Silk Road.”

The A350F features the industry’s largest main-deck cargo door and a fuselage optimized for standard pallets and containers. More than 70 percent of the airframe uses advanced materials, resulting in a take-off weight 46 tonnes lighter than its closest competitor. It is the only new-generation freighter designed to comply fully with ICAO’s strengthened CO₂ emissions standards entering force in 2027.

Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the aircraft offers up to 40 percent lower fuel burn and emissions compared with previous-generation freighters of similar capacity. It can carry a payload of 111 tonnes over 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometres) and will be certified for up to 50 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from entry into service, with full 100 percent SAF capability targeted by 2030.

Assembly of the first A350F test aircraft is currently progressing in Toulouse. As of the end of October 2025, the A350F program had secured 74 firm orders from 12 customers worldwide.

The expanded order positions Silk Way West Airlines to enhance efficiency and environmental performance across its international network while supporting Azerbaijan’s growing role as a strategic air cargo hub connecting Europe, Asia, and beyond.
