Wedoany.com Report-Dec.3, Morocco has approved plans for a new 60-kilometre highway connecting Tangier and Tetouan in the northern part of the country. The project, with an estimated cost of approximately $650 million, will be managed by the national road company, Société Nationale des Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM).

The new highway will replace the existing N2 national road, which no longer meets growing traffic demand due to rapid increases in population and vehicle numbers in the region. Tangier serves as one of Morocco’s primary international ports and a major industrial hub, making improved transport links essential for continued economic development.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, following completion of technical and environmental studies planned for 2026. These studies will ensure the route alignment and construction methods meet required standards.

Financing arrangements for the project are still under discussion. The highway forms part of Morocco’s broader programme to expand and modernise its road network, supporting stronger connectivity between key economic centres and facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers.

Once completed, the Tangier–Tetouan highway will significantly reduce travel times and enhance road safety while providing additional capacity for future traffic growth in one of the country’s most dynamic regions.
