Wedoany.com Report-Dec.8, Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Inter IKEA Group, has signed an agreement to acquire approximately 24,000 hectares of forestland in Latvia and Lithuania from CapMan Natural Capital. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

The Baltic portfolio has been under professional management for over ten years, with sustained focus on sustainable practices and operational enhancements that have improved forest health, productivity and resilience. CapMan Natural Capital will retain management responsibility for more than 215,000 hectares of forest assets across eight European countries after the sale.

Following completion, Inter IKEA Group's total forest holdings will exceed 355,000 hectares worldwide. Current ownership includes 75,000 hectares in the United States, 51,000 hectares in Romania, 28,500 hectares in New Zealand and 9,000 hectares in Finland. In financial year 2025, the group planted 14 million seedlings, recorded annual net forest growth of 500,000 cubic metres and designated 22% of its forests primarily for conservation purposes.

Inter IKEA Group stated that the acquisition supports its strategy to secure responsibly sourced timber while expanding regional supply chains. Bruno Mariani Piana, Global Forest Investments Manager at Inter IKEA Group, said: "By managing forestland responsibly and increasing regional wood processing in the Baltics, we aim to support local economies, collaborate with communities, and maintain healthy forests for generations to come."

IKEA remains one of the world's largest consumers of timber, accounting for roughly 1% of global commercial roundwood volume. The latest purchase follows the October announcement of a €720 million acquisition of 153,066 hectares in Latvia and Estonia from Södra, further strengthening the group's presence in the Baltic region pending regulatory clearance.

Both transactions underscore Inter IKEA Group's long-term commitment to responsible forestry and localised raw material sourcing to meet growing demand while promoting sustainable land management practices.
