Wedoany.com News, Recently, CleanCapital, a US-based independent power producer specializing in distributed renewable energy, announced the acquisition of a majority stake in two operational Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects located on Staten Island, New York City, through a joint venture formed with Osaka Gas USA. The total capacity of the projects is 7.7 MW / 30.8 MWh.

According to the agreement, CleanCapital will serve as the managing member and lead the joint venture. The two projects, named Arlington and Littlefield, commenced operations in July and August 2023, respectively. They participate in New York State's Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) program and have NYU Langone Hospitals as their sole net-metering power off-taker. Operations and maintenance will rely on CleanCapital's expertise and its supplier network, with Energy Security Response Group (ESRG) responsible for battery fire safety and emergency response management. Julia Bell, Chief Investment Officer of CleanCapital, stated that this investment reflects the company's commitment to expanding reliable clean energy infrastructure in key markets. Shingo Morii, Senior Vice President of Osaka Gas USA, noted that such projects are crucial for enhancing the resilience of New York's power grid and supporting the integration of clean energy. Against the backdrop of rising energy costs and tightening supply in the US, energy storage projects hold significant strategic importance for flattening peak demand, stabilizing the grid, and reducing electricity costs.
