Wedoany.com Report on Feb 3rd, Singapore Airlines has announced that it will resume direct flights between Singapore and Riyadh in June 2026, marking the carrier's return to the Saudi capital after a 12-year hiatus. The airline previously operated services to Riyadh from 2008 to 2014 before suspending them due to insufficient market demand.
In a statement, Singapore Airlines' Chief Commercial Officer, Lee Lik Hsin, said: "Our return to Riyadh comes at a time of its vibrant business environment and ambitious development, making it one of the most dynamic cities in the Middle East. In addition to being a new destination, this service may also allow us to work with partners to offer our customers more travel options in the region."
The new flights will operate four times a week using Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, configured with 303 seats, including 40 in Business Class and 263 in Economy Class. The outbound flight SQ498 will depart from Singapore at 18:20 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, while the return flight SQ499 will depart from Riyadh at 23:00 on the same days.
This resumption marks Singapore Airlines' second attempt at the Riyadh route. Unlike previous services that included intermediate stops, the new route will be fully non-stop. Riyadh will also become Singapore Airlines' second destination in Saudi Arabia, complementing its low-cost subsidiary Scoot's four-times-weekly flights to Jeddah.
Currently, Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary Scoot collectively serve over 120 destinations worldwide. With Singapore Changi Airport as its hub, the SIA Group's network covers Asia, Europe, Australia, Africa, and North America. The restoration of direct flights to Riyadh in 2026 will further expand its market presence in the Middle East region.
