Saudi's Flynas to Establish Syrian Subsidiary to Expand Low-Cost Airline Market

Wedoany.com Report on Feb 9th, Saudi Arabia's low-cost airline, Flynas, recently announced it will establish a branch in Syria, with the new company operating under the brand Flynas Syria. According to the plan, this joint venture airline is expected to commence services in the fourth quarter of this year, aiming to provide routes to multiple destinations in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, thereby strengthening Syria's air connectivity.

Flynas Syria will be held by a joint venture, with the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority owning 51% of the shares, and Saudi's Flynas holding the remaining 49%. The company stated that all necessary permits and operational procedures are being coordinated with relevant authorities and are nearing completion. Flynas emphasized that the new company will adhere to the highest standards of aviation safety and security.

Regarding fleet configuration, although specific details about Flynas Syria's fleet have not been disclosed, its parent company Flynas, as a key customer of Airbus, has ordered 200 A320neo and A321neo aircraft, with 61 already delivered, and has also ordered 15 A330-900s. Currently, Flynas operates flights from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam to Damascus.

Omar Hisham Al-Hosari, Chairman of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, noted that this joint venture agreement is a strategic move for Syria to rebuild and reshape its air transport system under a modern economic and regulatory framework. He added, "This cooperation model reflects the country's inclination to establish intelligent collaborative relationships with reliable regional partners, which helps promote the transfer of expertise and enhance local capabilities."

Bander Almohanna, CEO of Flynas, stated that the Syrian joint venture project is a crucial step in the company's growth strategy. He said, "This move will positively impact the company's financial performance and strengthen investors' confidence in our ability to create long-term value. We are proud to introduce innovative low-cost airline experience to the Syrian market, contributing to the creation of an internationally competitive low-cost carrier and enhancing Syria's regional and international air connectivity." Almohanna also revealed that Flynas is accelerating the completion of relevant licensing procedures.

Furthermore, during the signing ceremony in Damascus, the Saudi side also signed another agreement involving the development and operation of Aleppo Airport, further expanding cooperation between the two sides in the aviation sector.
