Wedoany.com Report on Feb 9th, Currently, Uzbekistan is strengthening its basic energy supply capacity by expanding uranium and coal mining. The latest disclosed mining plan outlines the country's resource development pace for the coming years.

Four Uranium Deposits Included in Development Plan

At a briefing attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan confirmed that it will begin developing four uranium deposits in 2026: the Anasay, West Kyzylkok, South Kongeldi, and East Agron deposits.

According to Uzbek media citing the Caspian Post, the country's uranium production in 2024 was 7,000 tons, while its proven uranium resource reserves have increased to 139,000 tons, providing a resource base for subsequent production expansion.

Energy Security Pressure Continues to Rise

In addition to nuclear fuel, traditional energy sources are also a key focus of the expansion. In the autumn and winter of 2025-2026, Uzbekistan's coal production is expected to reach 10 million tons, an increase of 1.3 million tons from the previous season.

Currently, the country has completed the mining of approximately 9 million tons of coal.

Against the backdrop of growing demand for electricity and heating, coal is still regarded as a crucial pillar for stabilizing energy supply.

Resource Development Accelerates Across the Board

President Mirziyoyev has instructed relevant departments to further increase coal production to 11 million tons in the next mining season.

Specific measures include advancing the development of deposits in the Tashkent and southern regions, expanding selective mining models, and increasing the deployment of excavators and heavy machinery.

Overall, the simultaneous expansion of uranium and coal mining constitutes the core strategy for Uzbekistan to enhance its energy autonomy and address growing domestic demand.
