Wedoany.com Report on Feb 12th, BMW Group, in collaboration with energy company Eon, has officially launched the country's first commercial vehicle-to-grid (V2G) service for private users. The service is now open for ordering. The package includes a bidirectional BMW Wallbox Professional wallbox, the Eon Öko-Strom Home & Drive V2G electricity tariff plan (including a separate feed-in agreement), and an option for smart meter installation (if not already configured).

This vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology is first being applied to the BMW Neue Klasse series, with the initial model being the iX3 based on the sixth-generation eDrive platform. The high-voltage batteries in these electric vehicles can not only store electricity but also feed power back into the grid. The charging and discharging processes are automatically managed by an algorithm jointly developed by BMW and Eon.

According to the agreement, users can receive up to 720 euros in time-based incentives per year by connecting their vehicle to a V2G-capable wallbox. The incentive is paid monthly, capped at 60 euros, regardless of whether actual charging or discharging operations occur. BMW calculates this subsidy based on a theoretical annual mileage of 14,000 kilometers. Furthermore, users receive an additional compensation of 0.40 euros for every kilowatt-hour of electricity fed back into the grid. All operations are controlled via the My BMW app, where customers can view their charging status and accumulated incentives in real-time.

"Germany's first commercial V2G service is a key milestone that effectively connects electric mobility with the energy system transformation," said Filip Thon, CEO of Eon Germany. Marcus Krieg, Vice President of New Business Models at BMW Group, added: "With the Neue Klasse, BMW cars are for the first time becoming active participants in the energy network. Their technology can intelligently store and feed back electricity, reducing costs for users while promoting the efficient use of renewable energy."

The first 100 BMW iX3 owners who subscribe to the Eon V2G electricity tariff plan receive an additional 700-euro discount on the wallbox. BMW and Eon also offer a cost-optimized charging service for all BMW and MINI electric vehicles. The system automatically shifts charging to low-price periods, offering the potential for further incentives.
