Wedoany.com Report on Feb 27th, Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming have awarded a contract worth $1.04 billion to Ontario Science Partners for the design, build, finance, and maintenance of the new Ontario Science Centre. The project team is led by John Laing Limited, Sacyr Infrastructure Canada Inc., and Amico Major Projects Inc. Design is by Hariri Pontarini Architects with Snøhetta, construction by Sacyr Canada Inc. and Amico Design Build Inc., facility management by Johnson Controls Canada L.P., with financial advisory from Agentis Capital Advisors.

The new Ontario Science Centre will be located on the main island of Ontario Place, preserving the Cinesphere and Pods complex. This 400,000-square-foot facility will feature interactive exhibits and an upgraded Cinesphere, offering more space for programs and activities compared to the original site. The Ontario Science Centre project was selected following a procurement process launched in May 2024, based on an evaluation of design, technical submissions, and delivery price.
This Ontario Science Centre plan originated in the summer of 2024 when the provincial government determined that the original site at 770 Don Mills Road had safety hazards and was not suitable for public use. An expert report noted serious structural deficiencies in the building's roof, with its service life nearing its end. In December 2025, the provincial government announced that the Harbourfront Centre would serve as a temporary location until the permanent facility is completed.
Ontario Science Partners will begin site mobilization, with construction expected to start in the coming weeks. The Ontario Science Centre is planned for completion in 2029. The provincial government stated that it will be a cornerstone of the revitalized Ontario Place, providing new experiences for families, creating over 1,000 jobs, and driving economic growth in Toronto and the surrounding region.
The final design for the new Ontario Place was unveiled in June 2025, featuring over 50 acres of free public trails, expanded green space, playgrounds, interactive fountains, new beaches, event spaces, a modernized marina, and a redesigned RBC Amphitheatre. The plans for Ontario Place and the Science Centre proceed alongside Therme Canada's new waterpark and wellness facility on Ontario Place's West Island. Renderings released in July 2025 showcased a thoughtfully designed site with winding water slides and areas inspired by global spa traditions.
