Wedoany.com Report on Mar 3rd, A road upgrade project in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales is set to begin, with the $6.3 million Wybong Road improvement works aiming to enhance transport connectivity for local communities. The route, located approximately 33 kilometers west of Muswellbrook, carries around 1,800 vehicles per day and serves as a crucial link for residents, freight operators, and industrial activities. Construction is scheduled to start in early March and is expected to be completed by July 2026, weather permitting.

This road upgrade is part of the New South Wales Government's initiatives to strengthen the regional road network and improve resilience to severe weather. Key works include road widening and reshaping, construction of a new box culvert over Finniss Creek, installation of safety barriers, and upgrading line marking and signage.

Upon completion, Wybong Road will feature wider lanes and improved flood immunity, helping to reduce closures during extreme weather events. The New South Wales Minister for the Hunter, Yasmin Catley, stated that these road upgrades are essential for people commuting to work, school, accessing services, and for the movement of goods.

Staged traffic management will be in place during construction, with alternating traffic and reduced speed arrangements during the day, and two-way low-speed access permitted at night. Following Easter, the road is planned for a full closure for approximately 13 weeks, during which a detour via Reedys Creek Road will be established. Transport for NSW has already completed tree clearing and improvements to the detour route in advance to accommodate large vehicles. New South Wales Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison, said this investment will deliver a stronger, safer, and more flood-resilient road. Through projects like this road upgrade, the infrastructure resilience and transport efficiency of the Upper Hunter region are expected to be enhanced, supporting long-term economic activity.
