Wedoany.com Report on Mar 3rd, The UK's first Circular Construction Hub, located in the Royal Docks area of East London, has recently officially launched. The facility was built through a collaboration between the charity Tipping Point East and the Newham Council, with support from London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Once fully operational, this Circular Construction Hub will become the largest facility of its kind in Europe. It aims to ensure construction waste is recycled and reused rather than sent to landfills, supporting London's ambitious goal of becoming a zero-carbon city by 2030.

The Circular Construction Hub is the first phase of the Silvertown Circular Economy Village project and is situated on land owned by the Greater London Authority. By enabling large-scale material reuse and recycling of demolition resources, the hub is projected to divert at least 950 tonnes of material from landfill over five years. The construction industry generates 62% of the UK's total waste, with over 100 million tonnes of waste produced annually from construction, demolition, and excavation activities across the UK, of which more than 5 million tonnes end up in landfills. London Mayor Sadiq Khan stated: "I'm delighted to see the UK's first Circular Construction Hub launching in the Royal Docks. This will help us achieve our ambitious goal of making London a zero-carbon city by 2030."

The Circular Construction Hub will support the sustainable delivery of thousands of new homes in the Royal Docks, including the Silvertown development led by Lendlease – which has approval to build 7,000 new homes, with at least 30% being affordable. These homes are part of the Mayor's plan to deliver over 36,000 new homes and create 55,000 new jobs in East London through the Royal Docks Enterprise Zone project.

Rokhsana Fiaz, Mayor of Newham, stated that by changing the way we build, the hub will create green jobs and provide the sustainable housing that residents deserve. The Circular Construction Hub will also promote innovative construction technologies to accelerate the transition to low-carbon buildings.
