en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Seoul Metropolitan Government disclosed in its e-book "Changes in Seoul Life in the Second Half of 2026" that it plans to launch an L4 autonomous taxi service in November 2026.

L4 level means fully autonomous driving without the need for a human driver.

The service will first operate in the Sangam district, home to the Digital Media City tech hub in the South Korean capital. Seoul has previously piloted autonomous bus services.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government also stated that it will redesign Sogong-ro and Sejong-daero before November to make them more pedestrian-friendly, thereby improving traffic safety.

The city authorities also plan to improve mobility conditions in five hillside communities in Seoul, replacing steep stairs with more convenient transportation options such as monorails and elevators. Related construction will begin in December and be completed in phases.

Additionally, Seoul will introduce traffic control guidance systems in underground passages and deploy AI-based smart CCTV monitoring systems to strengthen its resilience against extreme weather events.
