Wedoany.com Report on Mar 6th, The Mexican government plans to invest 397 billion pesos (approximately 22.5 billion USD) in highway construction by 2030. This involves the renovation and upgrade of 4,937 kilometers of roads and highways, as well as the construction or renovation of 21 bridges. This highway construction plan combines public investment with a private capital hybrid scheme and is one of the largest highway construction projects in the country in recent years. President Claudia Sheinbaum described the plan as a "very, very ambitious, historic national highway project" during a press conference at the National Palace.

Jorge Mendoza, Director General of the National Bank of Public Works and Services, explained that the bank has structured 18 highway construction projects under the hybrid investment scheme and construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and operation contracts, totaling over 150 billion pesos, with the possibility of including five additional projects.
These highway construction projects total approximately 1,450 kilometers and are expected to create 177,000 direct jobs and 142,000 indirect jobs. Mendoza emphasized that in both schemes, the concessions remain in the hands of the state, projects must be self-financing, and have independent oversight.
Among the identified highway construction projects, two concentrate the greatest strategic weight. The Gulf of Mexico Corridor will expand the section from southern Tamaulipas to Reynosa to four lanes; Federal Highway 57 will undergo comprehensive modernization, which is a key logistics axis between Mexico City, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Matehuala, Saltillo, and the northern border.
Jesús Esteva, head of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, stated that 113.36 billion pesos will be invested in priority corridors, covering 2,485 kilometers. This highway construction plan does not include maintenance and resurfacing works, which total about 18,000 kilometers this year under the "Bachetón" program.
