Wedoany.com Report on Mar 9th, An extension of the PC22 cycle path connecting Bleesbréck, Tandel, and Fouhren held its groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, with local officials witnessing the formal launch of the project. This over-six-kilometer-long cycle path will link the Sauer Valley and the Our Valley and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The project, costing approximately 3 million euros, aims to connect the cycling network in eastern Luxembourg. In Bleesbréck, the cycle path will link to the existing trail along the Sauer River; in Fouhren, it will connect to the Our Valley cycle path. According to Tandel Mayor Carole Gils, the planning for this cycle path dates back to 2005. After years of preparation, all necessary land acquisition and preliminary work have now been completed.

A notable feature of this cycle path is that parts of it follow the route of the former Beien railway, which once connected Diekirch and Vianden. Bettendorf Mayor Patrick Mangen stated that the old railway tunnel in Fouhren will be incorporated into the cycle path, becoming a highlight along the route. Gils added that this section of the track passes through Bleesbréck, via Bleesmillen and the Mille Canal, offering "very spectacular" scenery. The approximately 70-meter-long tunnel will be preserved and integrated into the cycle path.

A new bridge is also planned along the PC22 route to replace the existing bridge over the Sauer River. The new bridge will be higher than the old one, allowing cyclists to pass underneath after passing Bleesmillen. Gils noted that this is currently almost impossible, so raising the bridge is a necessary modification.

Upon completion, this cycle path will offer cycling enthusiasts a scenic natural route while maintaining convenient connections to main roads.
