Wedoany.com Report on Mar 14th, Huangling Mining Group in China recently applied Scantech's KSCAN-Magic composite 3D scanner, combined with laser cladding technology, to rapidly repair worn drill bit edges in its drilling operations. This technical solution aims to replace traditional cutting and welding methods, improving maintenance efficiency and precision.

During the drilling process, drill bit edges are prone to wear due to high pressure. Traditional repair methods require disassembly and cutting of the drill bit, leading to increased costs and quality fluctuations. The client required precise repair without disassembly to shorten downtime. 3D scanning technology provides a foundation for laser cladding through high-precision data acquisition, enabling in-situ repair.

The project faced challenges such as a noisy on-site environment and the complex shape of the drill bit. The KSCAN-Magic scanner operated stably with an accuracy of 0.020 mm, capturing details of cracks and wear, and worked in conjunction with professional software for data processing. Laser cladding technology enabled microscopic repair, enhancing the durability of the bit edges.

Customer feedback indicated that the 3D scanning and laser cladding technology brought intelligent improvements to drilling rig maintenance, avoiding resource waste and operational risks. Scantech stated that it will continue to promote the application of 3D scanning in traditional industries to drive technological transformation.
