en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 23rd, A World Bank delegation recently inspected an erosion control project in Gombe State, Nigeria, offering positive feedback on its scale and effectiveness. Led by the World Bank's Country Director for Nigeria, Matthew Virgis, the team conducted a field visit to a 21-kilometer gully erosion control site in the FCE (T) catchment area under the framework of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya accompanied the delegation to assess the project's engineering solutions and environmental protection measures. Imran Khan, representing Triacta Nigeria Limited, explained: "This project comprehensively utilizes reinforced concrete structures and bioremediation techniques, aiming to restore degraded land and curb erosion expansion."
Dr. Sani Adamu-Jauro, the State ACReSAL Coordinator, noted that the project also benefits local livelihoods, with over 100 residents having received waste management and rainwater harvesting facilities. He added that a Community Revolving Fund has been established, with a total amount exceeding 350 million Naira, to promote economic activities and enhance community resilience.
Beneficiary residents reported that the erosion control project has effectively improved their living conditions, protecting homes and farmlands from erosion threats. To promote environmental sustainability, Virgis and the Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Moez Antit, participated in a local tree-planting activity, supporting green initiatives.
