en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, Heidelberg Materials Sweden is considering adjustments to its production footprint in Sweden, planning to shift the operational focus of its Skövde plant to the production of cement end products starting in 2027. This move aims to address the decline in cement sales caused by weak demand in the Swedish construction sector under the current economic climate.

As part of its European production network optimization strategy, Heidelberg Materials is gradually driving the transformation of its cement product portfolio towards lower carbon, which includes reducing the proportion of clinker used. Clinker is a key intermediate material in cement production, and lowering its content helps reduce carbon emissions.

According to the adjustment plan, most of the company's clinker production in Sweden will be concentrated at the larger-scale cement plant in Slite, Gotland. Cement manufacturing at the Skövde plant will primarily rely on clinker procured from Slite to meet customer demand in the southwestern region of Sweden.

Heidelberg Materials Sweden stated that it will follow the relevant consultation process in Sweden and engage in discussions with social partners, including trade unions, regarding potential organizational adjustments resulting from the operational changes. The company is the sole cement manufacturer in Sweden, with approximately one-quarter of the country's total cement production currently coming from the Skövde plant, and the remaining three-quarters from Slite.
