en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, A major traffic switch was completed on March 23 for the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project in San Antonio, Texas, with the opening of the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Blanco Road. This highway project, with a total investment of approximately $1.4 billion, covers about 23 miles along the northern side of San Antonio. It aims to widen key sections of the roadway from four lanes to up to ten lanes.

The traffic switch was implemented following a full weekend closure (March 20-23). The newly opened Blanco Road DDI is the first of its kind on this corridor. In this configuration, traffic briefly crosses to the opposite side of the road to allow for more efficient left turns onto freeway ramps. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project manager stated that this milestone signifies the project has moved beyond the early stages of land clearing and foundational work. Construction crews can now proceed with paving, striping, and finishing adjacent roadway sections based on the partially completed interchange structures.
The Loop 1604 North Project is led by the Texas Department of Transportation. STV Inc. serves as the construction engineering and inspection consultant, LTRA Engineers is responsible for design, environmental permitting, and traffic analysis, and Parsons Corporation provides engineering consulting support. Following the interchange conversion, the project is expected to continue with construction and phased openings of subsequent segments to improve the capacity and safety of the transportation corridor along San Antonio's north side.
