en.Wedoany.com Reported - US advanced nuclear technology company Oklo announced on May 12 a Strategic Partnership Project (SPP) with Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA), the management and operating contractor of Idaho National Laboratory (INL), to leverage artificial intelligence technology to accelerate the design of advanced reactors and fuel systems.
This project falls under the SPP framework of the US National Nuclear Security Administration and aims to enhance the conceptual design of Oklo's reactor systems through AI-empowered engineering workflows, modeling, simulation, and technical documentation. The partners will integrate the Prometheus artificial intelligence platform with Oklo's multi-physics design and analysis infrastructure to streamline engineering workflows and support the development of the Pluto reactor system. The Pluto reactor is a plutonium-fueled reactor system designed by Oklo and is part of the US Department of Energy's reactor demonstration program.
Oklo co-founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte stated: "This work merges advanced reactor design, AI engineering tools, and INL's deep technical expertise. Applying AI to reactor design workflows can accelerate development, improve engineering efficiency, and support the advancement of advanced systems, including the Pluto reactor."
Under the project arrangement, both parties will develop and apply technical guidance on model setup, benchmarking, validation strategies, and AI agents. Specific tasks include enabling AI agents to interact with Oklo's existing multi-physics workflows, execute and monitor design processes, process results, and generate compliant documentation, all while human operators participate in supervision, review, and decision-making.
Dr. Rian Bahran, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Reactors at the US Department of Energy, stated: "Collaborations like this are critical to driving innovation in advanced nuclear systems. By leveraging AI technology, national laboratory expertise, and industry partnerships, we are accelerating the development of next-generation reactors to support national energy goals."
It is reported that this work will advance the "Genesis Mission," an initiative aimed at ushering in a new era of AI-accelerated innovation and discovery. Oklo stated that this project also reflects the company's broader focus on advancing reactor design capabilities and fuel-related work through collaboration with leading national laboratory partners.
