en.Wedoany.com Reported - AmpereHour Energy and IndiGrid have officially commissioned a 180MW/360MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at a Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) substation in Gujarat. With Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) as the offtaker, the project is reportedly India's largest standalone utility-scale battery storage facility and one of the largest energy storage projects by installed capacity in Asia.

The commissioning of this storage plant is expected to significantly enhance regional grid stability. Over the past few years, Gujarat has developed rapidly in the renewable energy sector, cumulatively deploying 870MW of battery storage projects across the state. The IndiGrid-AmpereHour project will help balance grid loads and enable a reliable, round-the-clock supply of renewable energy.

AmpereHour stated: "Building Asia's largest standalone BESS was a formidable challenge, requiring us to scale our experience from a 40MWh project in Delhi to a 360MWh reality." To meet GUVNL's stringent grid interconnection requirements, AmpereHour's R&D and engineering teams conducted extensive simulation studies, optimizing the entire electrical chain from the 220kV point of interconnection to the DC system to ensure high round-trip efficiency (RTE) and available energy.

The project deployed AmpereHour's ELINA Energy Management System to integrate massive data streams and utilized the AH Suite software platform to coordinate multiple contractors, ensuring high-quality execution.

Rahul Shelke, Co-founder and Managing Director of AmpereHour Energy, said: "Our flexible integration architecture was key to achieving this scale. By providing an intelligent, adaptable technology layer, we enabled the project developer, IndiGrid, to deploy a technologically superior and more cost-effective system."

The storage facility will store surplus renewable energy during off-peak periods and release it during peak hours, thereby reducing curtailment and enhancing grid resilience.

Harsh Shah, Managing Director of IndiGrid, stated: "The successful commissioning of this 180MW/360MWh BESS project is a proud moment for IndiGrid and a significant milestone for India's evolving energy infrastructure. AmpereHour's capabilities in the design, integration, and commissioning of large-scale battery energy storage systems were critical to the success of this project."
