en.Wedoany.com Reported - On May 18, 2026, GMN Paul Müller Industrie GmbH launched the construction of a new high-precision ball bearing production workshop at its headquarters in Nuremberg and held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project.

The investment volume for this project amounts to approximately 28 million euros, setting a record for GMN's largest single investment in nearly three decades. The company views this as a firm commitment to the Nuremberg industrial base. The original production workshop was built in 1932; nearly a century later, the owner is laying the foundation for the future of ball bearing manufacturing with this new construction.

The new purpose-built facility has a gross floor area of approximately 8,650 square meters, fully tailored to the manufacturing requirements of high-precision ball bearings. At full capacity, around 85 employees will work here. A technical highlight is its vibration-damping structure: the floor of the precision measurement room is separated from the rest of the building to isolate vibrations from a nearby railway line and other production areas, thereby keeping manufacturing tolerances in the sub-micron or even nanometer range. Furthermore, temperature and humidity are regulated within extremely narrow ranges. The new production line will feature comprehensive automation and efficient internal logistics, for example, through automated transport systems.

In terms of energy saving and environmental protection, the building's energy consumption is expected to be 15 to 20 percent lower than that of the old building. Process heating and cooling will be provided by geothermal energy, and a photovoltaic system with a peak capacity of around 430 kilowatts and 200 kilowatt-hours of battery storage will support the power supply. GMN will forgo the use of fossil fuels, opting instead for climate-neutral certified district heating supplied by the municipal energy provider N-ERGIE. As a result, the building meets the stringent requirements of the NH 40 standard within the KfW 299 program for sustainable buildings in terms of energy efficiency and ecological sustainability. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with the relocation planned for the first quarter of 2028.

GMN Managing Partner Michael Lösch stated: "This is the culmination of three years of planning led by Dr. Edgar Verlemann. We are courageous and believe in the future, even in times that are not 'super sexy.' The 28 million euros sends a strong signal to the Nuremberg industrial base, to our competitors, and to the entire GMN team that made this step possible." Dr. Andrea Heilmaier, Nuremberg's Economic Affairs Officer, praised the project: "A groundbreaking like this is what an economic affairs officer is most pleased to see. Our city is an industrial city and should remain so. The current times are not favorable, making an investment of this scale all the more valuable. I believe GMN is well-prepared with its promising business areas, courage, and loyalty to the location."
