en.Wedoany.com Reported - Meta has announced the launch of consumer-facing social app subscription services, including Instagram Plus ($3.99/month), Facebook Plus ($3.99/month), and WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/month). For a few dollars a month, users can access additional features such as profile customization, super reactions, and story insights.

Naomi Gleit, Meta's Head of Product, stated in the announcement that more features will be added in the future. The company is also simultaneously beginning to test professional plans for creators and businesses, as well as an AI plan for all users. These new tests will be unified under the brand "Meta One," serving as the umbrella name for future subscription products.

Meta confirmed its plans to launch subscription services earlier this year and began initial testing in the spring. The consumer subscription plans are designed to offer extra features to power users while helping Meta extract more value from its existing billions of users, diversify its revenue streams, and reduce its reliance on advertising, given that these apps have achieved global saturation with limited room for growth.

The new Plus plans are tailored for each app. Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus focus on social expression, while WhatsApp Plus emphasizes personalization and messaging. These new plans will not replace the existing Meta Verified service, which focuses on verification, impersonation protection, and extra support.

The Instagram Plus plan allows subscribers to see total story replays, create unlimited story audience lists, boost one story per week for more views, extend stories beyond 24 hours, preview stories without appearing as a viewer, and search the story viewer list, among other features. Users can also post content directly to their profile and highlight it without it appearing in followers' feeds. Other features include animated super heart reactions for stories, custom app icons, customizable fonts for profile bios, and the ability to pin more content to profiles. These features are designed to serve creators and users looking to grow their following and understand their audience, and may also appeal to power users.

Facebook Plus offers a feature set similar to Instagram Plus. WhatsApp Plus provides features like app themes, custom ringtones, more pinned chats, list customization, and premium stickers.

Alongside the launch of these new plans, Meta will begin testing more subscription options. For Meta AI users, two plans will be tested—Meta One Plus ($7.99/month) and Meta One Premium ($19.99/month). Both offer the same features, but the Premium plan unlocks more capacity for higher-compute queries, including deeper reasoning for complex tasks (i.e., more "think mode" in the Meta AI app or web interface), as well as more video and image generation capabilities across Meta apps. Meta AI will remain free for regular users, and the plans will expand in the coming weeks to offer more benefits for users of AI glasses. Testing for the AI plans will begin next month, starting in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.

Two plans for creators and businesses will begin testing later this week in markets including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh. The Meta One Essential plan ($14.99/month) offers a verification badge, impersonation protection, and an enhanced link page. The more expensive Meta One Advanced plan ($49.99/month) includes Essential plan benefits, plus the ability to appear in the Facebook feed, rank higher in search results, attract followers via a "Follow" button on Reels, and automatically send "Follow" invitations to users who engage. The Advanced plan also helps creators and businesses direct users to websites or stores through links in Instagram posts and Reels, as well as an enhanced profile, and provides deeper analytics, including Instagram competitive insights and Facebook custom audience insights. Advanced plan subscribers also get access to optimized scheduling tools, tools for sharing access with other account admins, and notifications when other users reuse their content.

Gleit acknowledged that Meta is still experimenting with these AI and professional plans, with the goal of eventually integrating them all under Meta One and continuously updating and expanding them in the future.
