en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazilian biomethane producer Gás Verde has partnered with German building materials company Knauf to supply renewable gas to the latter's factory in Queimados, Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The three-year contract is expected to help the factory reduce over 28,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions, equivalent to an annual reduction of 9,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Knauf's factory in Queimados primarily produces gypsum board systems. Under the new contract, the factory will receive 13,000 cubic meters (4.7 million cubic meters per year) of biomethane daily starting this month (June). Biomethane accounts for approximately one-third of the factory's total gas consumption, with the remainder still using fossil natural gas, and the two gas sources can be switched interchangeably.

Eduardo Eleuterio, CEO of Knauf Brazil, stated that the partnership is considered a strategic move by the company, helping to accelerate the decarbonization process and enhance the resilience and competitiveness of its operations in Brazil. The Queimados factory will become the first within the Knauf Group globally to operate using biomethane as fuel.
