en.Wedoany.com Reported - Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, four Nordic countries, recently jointly established the Nordic Additive Manufacturing Alliance (NAMA). This alliance is a cross-border initiative supported by Nordic Innovation, bringing together leading additive manufacturing institutions from the four countries.

The core mission of the alliance is to coordinate production capacities across countries, share expertise, and jointly address the growing vulnerabilities in regional supply chains. NAMA will initially operate from 2026 to 2028, led by DIMECC Ltd of Finland, with participants including the Finnish Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem (FAME), RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, the Norwegian Additive Manufacturing Cluster, and the Danish AM Hub.
Funded by Nordic Innovation's "Nordic Forward" program, the alliance's work will cover ecosystem mapping, industrial needs assessment, governance development, and the creation of a long-term roadmap for Nordic cooperation.
This initiative directly responds to the current fragmentation of the regional additive manufacturing landscape, where knowledge, production capacity, and investments have not been systematically shared across borders. Recent disruptive events, including the COVID-19 crisis that tested the ability to rapidly produce critical components, have exposed the risks of relying on global supply chains or isolated national solutions, particularly in sectors such as defense, energy, healthcare, and industrial infrastructure.
Sweden leads in materials and metal powder production, Finland in industrial implementation and digital design, Denmark in circular business models and innovation, and Norway in maritime and energy applications. NAMA aims to integrate these strengths into a coordinated cross-border effort, a process that no single country can achieve independently.
"Through the Nordic Additive Manufacturing Alliance, we are enhancing the long-term competitiveness and resilience of the Nordic region," said Sindre Stemshaug Bornstein, Managing Director of Nordic Innovation. "Additive manufacturing is a key technology for achieving sustainability, digitalization, and innovation, and each Nordic country has complementary strengths. By bringing these together, we can accelerate the green transition and strengthen cross-border industrial resilience."
Beyond its immediate three-year project scope, NAMA aims to become a permanent organization. The alliance plans to represent the Nordic region as a unified voice in discussions with European policymakers and industry bodies, positioning the region as a frontrunner in the adoption and application of additive manufacturing.
