en.Wedoany.com Reported - The German federal government will establish an institute for artificial intelligence safety to strengthen the assessment of opportunities and risks associated with modern AI models. The National Security Council (Nationaler Sicherheitsrat) decided to set up this body, aiming to consolidate resources for analyzing the capabilities and risks of AI models, enhance exchanges and cooperation with similar institutions abroad, and promote the adoption of unified standards in AI handling with international partners.

Many countries already have such institutes, and the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) had previously taken on related tasks. In December, BSI sent representatives to an international conference on AI standardization held in Seoul, South Korea. The Security Council, chaired by Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), also discussed security policy developments in the Near and Middle East and decided to review laws concerning the supply of essential goods and critical infrastructure for the population and the military, adapting them to current challenges. The black-red coalition federal government established the National Security Council last year to respond swiftly and effectively to various crises and threats. In addition to members of the federal government and security agencies, representatives from the states may also be invited to participate.
