en.Wedoany.com Reported - Barkly Rare Earths (ASX:BAK) has secured a $100,000 grant from the Northern Territory Government to advance metallurgical testing at its flagship rare earth project. The funding, provided under the 19th round of the NT Government's Geophysics and Drilling Collaborations (GDC) program, is matched on a 1:1 basis with the company's own investment in the project.
Auralia Metallurgy has commenced beneficiation testing to assess the feasibility of upgrading Barkly mineralisation into a rare earth concentrate. The tests will evaluate flotation and related beneficiation techniques, and determine the characteristics of concentrate grade, rare earth recovery, and mass yield. Specialised Metallurgical Services has simultaneously initiated exploratory hydrometallurgical testing to assess potential process pathways for extracting rare earths from Barkly mineralisation and beneficiation products. By testing a range of conditions, the project can establish initial extraction characteristics and identify promising process routes for further evaluation.
Additional samples from the upcoming 10,000-metre drilling program will also be used for this co-funded metallurgical activity. Located 350 kilometres northeast of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory, the Barkly project has an initial inferred mineral resource of 40 million tonnes, with a magnet rare earth oxide (MREO) grade of 710 ppm and a total rare earth oxide (TREO) grade of 2,100 ppm. Preliminary conventional leach testing achieved a 74% MREO extraction rate, while initial beneficiation tests produced a concentrate with a TREO grade of 29,000 ppm.
