en.Wedoany.com Reported - Malaysian property developer and investment holding company Tanco has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Mobile International to develop a 50MW data center in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. Tanco stated that the signing of this MoU aims to expand its business activities into new areas such as data centers by establishing strategic partnerships with reputable and experienced global leading brands.

Under the MoU, both parties are required to sign a final agreement for the data center project within two years. A memorandum of understanding is a non-binding preliminary agreement, similar in nature to a Letter of Intent (LoI). Founded in 1958, Tanco initially engaged in rubber and palm oil businesses and has now become a major property developer in Malaysia. It remains unclear whether the company has relevant experience in data center construction, development, or operation.

Port Dickson is also the proposed site for Tanco's "Smart AI Container Port," which is planned for development on a 480-acre plot. China Mobile International is the global subsidiary of Chinese telecom operator China Mobile. In February this year, the company signed a Letter of Intent with Singapore-based clean energy firm AsiaPhos for a data center project in Malaysia.
