en.Wedoany.com Reported - The jacket for the Neptun Deep natural gas development project has completed loading operations and departed from Saipem's Arbatax shipyard in Sardinia.

Jointly developed by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, this project is the largest offshore natural gas project currently under construction in the European Union, with a total development investment of approximately 4 billion euros.

Weighing about 7,500 metric tons, the jacket stands approximately 135 meters tall with a base of about 50 meters by 50 meters, and is being transported horizontally. Upon arrival in the Black Sea, it will be lifted into position by Saipem's Saipem 7000 crane vessel and installed on the seabed using eight steel piles, each 2.5 meters in diameter.

Saipem was awarded the Neptun Deep development contract in August 2023, with a scope of work including the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the offshore production platform. The jacket built in Sardinia will support the topside module currently under construction at Saipem's shipyard in Karimun, Indonesia.

In addition to the platform, Saipem's scope of work includes the subsea development of the Domino field (water depth of approximately 1,000 meters) and the Pelican field (water depth of approximately 125 meters), as well as the installation of a 160-kilometer, 30-inch export pipeline and associated fiber optic cables connecting the offshore facilities to the Romanian coast.

The Neptun Deep development project is expected to play a significant role in expanding Romania's offshore natural gas production and enhancing the diversification of Europe's energy supply.
