en.Wedoany.com Reported - Amazon has announced plans to expand the use of its automated inventory management system across its logistics centers in India. Tye Brady, Chief Technologist for Amazon Robotics, stated in an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI) that the company has deployed multiple automation solutions in its Indian logistics network and remains committed to further investment in this market.

Amazon to expand automated inventory management applications in Indian logistics centers

Amazon has invested $40 billion in India and plans to invest an additional $35 billion by 2030. Brady noted that Indian logistics centers are already equipped with robotic systems, including SLAM (Scan, Label, Apply, Manifest) labelers, for inventory control and management. The SLAM labeler is an automated device used in large logistics centers to scan packages in real time, verify data, print and apply shipping labels, and transmit information to carriers before shipment, thereby streamlining outbound operations.

Earlier this month, Amazon announced it would introduce its next-generation Proteus robot to European logistics centers by the first half of 2027. The robot is designed to assist employees with physically demanding tasks. Brady said that globally deployed robotic systems, including the autonomous mobile robot Proteus, are currently manufactured and promoted in the United States and are now expanding to Europe. When asked about plans to deploy Proteus in India, Brady stated: "Proteus is currently in the U.S., but now we are bringing it to Europe. The scope of application continues to expand, and I believe that over time, our robots will also be there."

Regarding policies that encourage investment in artificial intelligence and supply chain technologies, Brady warned against excessive regulation during the rapid development phase of AI innovation. He drew an analogy to the early days of commercial aviation, noting that while regulation is important in areas where safety is critical, policymakers should avoid imposing overly strict rules before the technology has fully matured. Brady emphasized that responsible AI development is crucial and that companies deploying such technology must bear responsibility. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is committed to building safe and reliable AI capabilities within its technology stack, enabling organizations worldwide to use it for beneficial applications. He made it clear: "I certainly don't want innovation to be stifled by an overly regulated environment at such an early stage."

Amazon has been expanding the deployment of robotics, automation, and AI technologies across its global logistics and delivery network to improve operational efficiency, optimize inventory management, and ensure worker safety.
