en.Wedoany.com Reported - LS Cable & System announced on June 15 that it has secured a turnkey contract for Phase 2 of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission project from the east coast to the Seoul metropolitan area, awarded by Korea Electric Power Corp.

LS Cable & System employees inspect the Donghaean-Shinpyeong project site, where 500kV-class HVDC cables are being installed.

The contract covers the Donghaean to East Seoul section, with a value of approximately KRW 146 billion.

This award builds on the Phase 1 contract for the Donghaean to Shinpyeong section (approximately KRW 88 billion) secured in 2024, bringing the total contract value for the two phases to approximately KRW 234 billion.

The east coast-to-capital area HVDC project is part of the national power grid plan, aimed at stably transmitting large-scale power generation from the east coast to the Seoul region.

LS Cable independently developed and commercialized South Korea's first 500kV-class HVDC cable. The company has also introduced a 525kV, 90°C HVDC cable, which is reportedly the world's largest in terms of transmission capacity.

LS Cable has previously participated in several major domestic projects in South Korea, including the Jeju 2nd and 3rd interconnection projects, as well as the North Dangjin to Godeok Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects.

In overseas markets, LS Cable secured contracts worth approximately KRW 3 trillion from German transmission operator TenneT for a total ultra-high-voltage grid project valued at KRW 7 trillion, marking the largest single order awarded to a single supplier for this project.

Kim Hyung-won, head of LS Cable's Energy and Construction Business Division, stated that the company plans to actively participate in the West Coast Energy Highway project, leveraging its experience in executing major HVDC projects both domestically and internationally.
