en.Wedoany.com Reported - The government of Kyrgyzstan has announced that the first phase of a planned 1.9 GW solar project is now operational.

Named the ROX Issyk-Kul Solar Power Plant, the project is located in the Issyk-Kul region of eastern Kyrgyzstan and is being developed, financed, and managed by Vietnam's Rox Energy Global in partnership with RECA LLC. Construction began in July 2025 after an agreement was signed with Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Energy. The first phase includes a 175 MW solar power plant, a 110 kV high-voltage substation, and related transmission infrastructure. According to the state news agency Kabar, the first phase investment amounts to $130 million, with over 250 Kyrgyz citizens currently involved in construction.

The overall project is planned at 1.9 GW, with a total estimated investment of $1.4 billion, and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. Kabar noted that once fully operational, it will become the largest solar project in Central Asia. The commissioning of this first phase marks the creation of Kyrgyzstan's largest operational solar project to date. According to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the country's solar installed capacity increased from 0 MW at the end of 2024 to 100 MW by the end of 2025. In December last year, Kyrgyzstan's first large-scale solar power plant—a 100 MW facility in the northern Chuy region—was already put into operation.

Additionally, several other large-scale solar projects are advancing in Kyrgyzstan. In November last year, the National Investment Agency reached an agreement with Hungary's Electron Holding to develop a 300 MW solar project. A month earlier, the Ministry of Energy signed an investment agreement with a consortium of Chinese enterprises to build a 250 MW solar project, expected to be completed by 2027.
