en.Wedoany.com Reported - The relining and upgrade project of the No.1 Blast Furnace at the Baoshan Base of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Baosteel," 600019.SH), located in Baoshan District, Shanghai, China, was successfully put into operation on June 12, 2026, nine days ahead of schedule, with a total construction period of 89 days. This blast furnace is a landmark facility in the modernization process of China's steel industry, and it has now commenced its fourth-generation campaign with a new posture of high efficiency, longevity, greenness, and intelligence. The project was designed by WISDRI Engineering & Research Inc., a subsidiary of Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd. (referred to as "MCC," 601618.SH/1618.HK), and the construction was undertaken by Shanghai Baoye Group Corp., Ltd.
Baosteel is the core listed subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group Corp., Ltd., headquartered in Shanghai, and is one of the most modernized and competitive integrated steel enterprises in China. The No.1 Blast Furnace was commissioned in September 1985 along with the first phase of the Baosteel project, becoming China's first 4,000-cubic-meter-class modern super-large blast furnace. Its commissioning marked China's steel industry's entry into the world's advanced ranks and earned it the title of "Meritorious Blast Furnace" of China's steel industry. This relining and upgrade represents the largest-scale and most technically challenging technological renovation since the establishment of Baosteel.
According to MCC, WISDRI adhered to the modern blast furnace concept of "longevity, high efficiency, energy saving, environmental protection, and intelligence" during the design process, applying next-generation hearth longevity technology. In high heat load areas, a combination of "copper wall and iron armor" cooling equipment was used, aiming to achieve an 18-year campaign without intermediate repairs. The project deeply integrated the "AI + Blast Furnace" digital intelligence concept, upgrading the intelligent furnace condition management system and establishing a full-dimensional online monitoring system to achieve precise control over the entire process of equipment maintenance and furnace condition adjustment. In terms of environmental protection, the project optimized system design to enhance the comprehensive utilization efficiency of resources such as blast furnace gas and solid waste. Shanghai Baoye innovatively adopted an alternating transport scheme of "skid sliding + modular trailer transport," completing the demolition of the old furnace shell and installation of the new one in just 8 days, setting two domestic records for the heaviest weight and shortest time in modular trailer transport for rapid relining of super-large blast furnaces. Additionally, for the first time, "synchronous lifting technology with different tonnage jacks" was employed, solving interleaved technical challenges related to lifting orientation, weight, and synchronization.
The successful commissioning of the No.1 Blast Furnace has accumulated valuable experience for the iterative upgrade of rapid repair technology for domestic super-large blast furnaces and has injected new momentum into the green, intelligent, and high-quality development of China's steel industry.
