en.Wedoany.com Reported - Amazon is considering selling its self-developed AI chips to customers beyond its cloud services, a move that could challenge Nvidia's dominance in the AI data center market.

Pete DeSantis, head of AI at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the e-commerce division, told Bloomberg that the company is in talks with potential customers. "We believe AI infrastructure is evolving rapidly, and we are always looking for ways to reach more customers," DeSantis said. Currently, Amazon's latest AI hardware, Trainium3, is only available through its cloud platform AWS.

Ride-hailing platform Uber is one of the companies using Trainium3 for AI tasks, and OpenAI also announced in February that it plans to deploy 2GW of Trainium computing power on AWS. While selling Trainium3 openly to data center operators would be seen as a direct challenge to Nvidia, Amazon is also one of Nvidia's largest customers—the company announced in March that it plans to deploy 1 million Nvidia chips within its AWS data centers over the next 12 months. Additionally, Google has expanded access to its self-developed TPU chips beyond its own cloud platform, selling them to "select customers" and launching a new TPU cloud service in partnership with Blackstone.
