en.Wedoany.com Reported - Underwriters Laboratories (UL Solutions) has launched a new evaluation service to help battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturers, developers, and integrators meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements for mitigating fire and deflagration hazards.

Ken Boyce, Chief Engineering Vice President at UL Solutions, stated that as energy storage systems continue to grow in scale and importance, parties involved in deployment need clear, science-based support to assess risks and smoothly navigate the approval process.
The new evaluation service complements UL Solutions' existing battery energy storage system testing and certification capabilities, which include UL 9540, the Standard for Energy Storage Systems and Equipment, and UL 9540A, the Test Method for Thermal Runaway Fire Propagation in Battery Energy Storage Systems.
The service primarily supports work related to NFPA 855, the Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems, providing data to demonstrate compliance with NFPA 855 requirements, as well as explosion protection and prevention requirements under NFPA 68 (Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting) and NFPA 69 (Standard on Explosion Prevention Systems).
Specifically, the NFPA 855 evaluation offered by UL Solutions can identify gaps, document findings, and strengthen the evidence submitted for review by code authorities. For NFPA 68 and NFPA 69, customers will receive detailed engineering reports containing modeling of explosion risk and safety performance, simulation-based analysis, and expert interpretation. Additionally, the service includes virtual meetings with UL Solutions technical experts to review the results.
By integrating evaluation, simulation, testing, and certification, UL Solutions helps stakeholders find a clearer and more efficient path to compliance and project approval.
