en.Wedoany.com Reported - Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunayGas (KMG), recently inspected the construction site of a hybrid power plant in Zhanaozen. This project is implemented in cooperation with Italy's Eni under the framework of KMG's low-carbon development plan.

The hybrid power plant, with a planned total installed capacity of 247 MW, integrates three power generation sources: a solar power plant (50 MW), a wind power plant (77 MW), and a gas-fired power plant (120 MW). This is the first energy complex in Kazakhstan built using such a hybrid model.

Construction of the gas-fired power plant is progressing. All six gas generator sets manufactured by Wartsila have been installed, and the main building's structural framework has been topped out. On-site engineering pipelines are being laid, while commissioning and technical connection work for the main equipment is underway. A 110 kV substation has been completed and is in the commissioning phase.

For the wind power plant, early-stage construction work is underway on site, design and budget documentation is being prepared simultaneously, and wind turbine components are in the manufacturing stage.

As of September 2025, the cumulative electricity generation from the solar power plant already commissioned by KMG and Eni has exceeded 50 million kWh, validating the efficiency of solar power generation in the region. The plant is expected to produce approximately 86 million kWh of clean electricity annually.

The new project aims to support the decarbonization and carbon footprint reduction strategy. Approximately 40% of the electricity generated by the hybrid power plant will be green power, while also providing a stable power supply to KMG subsidiaries in the Mangystau region, including Ozenmunaigaz JSC and KazGOZ LLC.
Over 1,000 workers have been mobilized at the construction site, and the project is expected to create approximately 70 new jobs upon commissioning.
